Billy Bishop Airport Holds Second Public Meeting for Master Plan 2018 On June 25

01/06/2018

Toronto (June 1, 2018) – Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (Billy Bishop Airport) will hold the second public meeting for its 2018 Master Plan on June 25, 2018, at the Westin Harbour Castle in the Frontenac Room. The meeting will have several informational components and will run from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The second meeting will begin with an Open House which will enable attendees to engage in one-on-one conversations with subject matter experts, followed by a short presentation with an update on the Master Plan process to date and the next steps. The evening will conclude with a series of Topic Rooms which will provide in-depth information and allow for further discussion on three key topics. The same presentation will be delivered in each room every hour, enabling attendees to participate in all sessions if they so choose or simply attend their preferred session only.

The sessions will be as follows:

  • Draft Master Plan Development Concepts where speakers will discuss the opportunities and constraints at the airport and offer an overview of potential alternative development concepts under consideration.
  • Overview of Runway End Safety Areas (RESA) where speakers will explain what a RESA is, how it could be achieved at airports, and what implications it could have on Billy Bishop Airport.
  • City-Led Neighbourhood Planning Initiatives where speakers with the City of Toronto from City Planning, Transportation Services, and Toronto Public Health will provide updates on work undertaken.

The 2018 Master Plan for Billy Bishop Airport will be an update of the 2012 Master Plan, which is available on the PortsToronto website. The planning process, which kicked off in late 2017, involves comprehensive public consultation and stakeholder engagement. To date, more than 40 meetings have been held with neighbourhood associations, First Nations communities, elected officials, local businesses, airport stakeholders and community groups. The first of three public meetings was held on February 7, 2018, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The meeting will be monitored and facilitated by LURA Consulting who will prepare a report that will be shared on the project website http://www.billybishopairportmasterplan2018.com. A copy of the Facilitation Report from the first public meeting is currently available on the project website.
