Calm Wind Runway Trial Begins at Billy Bishop Airport
Toronto (August 1, 2018) – As part of our ongoing commitment to mitigate the operational impacts and noise of our operations on the community, Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport has requested that NavCanada begin a Calm Wind Runway trial. As part of this trial, the public may notice aircraft taking off and landing more often from West to East at Billy Bishop Airport. This trial will help determine if this procedure should be implemented to further complement the comprehensive Noise Management Program at Billy Bishop Airport.
The trial will take place during the morning start-up routine and when traffic levels permit during periods of calm wind (wind speed of less than 5 knots per hour). NavCanada will use runway 08 as the primary runway for this trial. However, during periods of heavy aircraft traffic, NavCanada retains the operational flexibility to use an alternate runway. This trial will take place effective immediately and run until the end of June 2019.
Feedback from the public will be an important factor in the decision to implement this routine as a permanent procedure and the public is encouraged to submit feedback directly to Billy Bishop Airport's Noise Management Office accessible through the website , 416-203-8490 or through the noise management software WebTrak.
