Final Stages of PortsToronto Project to Revitalize Eireann Quay Roadway to Culminate in Overnight Paving September 27-28
(Toronto – September 25, 2020) – As part of a PortsToronto project to revitalize Eireann Quay and improve vehicle and pedestrian circulation in the vicinity of Billy Bishop Airport, final asphalt resurfacing of the Eireann Quay roadway will take place overnight, between 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 27 and 7:00 a.m. on Monday, September 28. PortsToronto will be conducting this work overnight in order to maximize efficiency by leveraging the significant reduction of vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic in the area. Throughout this final phase of the project, efforts will be made to mitigate resulting noise. Vehicle access to the Billy Bishop Airport ferry terminal will be maintained.
This project – which began in April 2020 – includes the completed reconstruction of the Billy Bishop Airport finger lot and the east and west sidewalks bordering Eireann Quay, a reconfiguration of the airport taxi corral to improve passenger loading and reduce its footprint, as well as the relocation and improvement of an existing surface parking lot on the Canada Malting site, which features a new student pick up/drop off area at the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) Waterfront School.
PortsToronto’s improvement of passenger and vehicle traffic operations at Billy Bishop Airport is part of the multi-partner, multi-phase Bathurst Quay Neighbourhood Plan (BQNP) being led by the City of Toronto. Among other improvements, the BQNP will improve pedestrian experience and comfort in the vicinity of the airport and improve the public realm for the enjoyment of both the community and travellers.
