Notice of Geotechnical Investigation at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport
Toronto (September 9, 2024) – Please be advised that PortsToronto consultants will be conducting a geotechnical investigation at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport starting on Monday, September 16 at 10:00 p.m. and continuing to 6:00 a.m. the following day. This schedule of activity will be ongoing each day until early October.
PortsToronto and its consultants and contractors will implement measures to minimize the impact of the geotechnical drilling operation on the community including limitations on related noise and directives that lighting for night-time operations will be directed downwards and away from neighbourhoods.
This work will take place during night-time hours when the airport is closed to commercial aircraft operations.
The geotechnical investigation will occur both onshore and offshore. Some night lighting will be required around the equipment. In an effort to minimize impact, contractors will be required to point lights away from residential areas and downwards.
The offshore geotechnical investigation will require drilling in the lake to collect core samples. While this is taking place, passersby will observe a barge, machine noise and possibly banging noise for short durations from the drill auger.
Operations are exempt from the City noise bylaw but all efforts will be made to mitigate noise.
