Two New Directors Appointed to PortsToronto’s Board of Directors

Toronto. July 10, 2018 – PortsToronto is pleased to welcome two new federal appointees to its Board of Directors. On July 6, 2018, Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the federal Minister of Transport, in consultation with the classes of users mentioned in the Letters Patent, pursuant to paragraph 14(1)(d) of the Canada Marine Act, appointed Hellen Siwanowicz and Donald McIntyre to PortsToronto’s Board of Directors, to hold office for a term of three years. The appointments of Ms. Siwanowicz and Mr. McIntyre were made pursuant to the federal government’s open, transparent and merit-based selection process for Governor in Council appointments.

PortsToronto is accountable to the federal government through Transport Canada, and is guided by a nine-member Board of Directors composed of individuals appointed by all levels of government — federal, provincial and municipal. Six members of the board are appointed by the Minister of Transport in consultation with committees representing four identified user groups – commercial, recreation, airport and port operations. All individuals nominated by the Minister of Transport are appointed by the Governor in Council.

Ms. Siwanowicz is a legal consultant specializing in business law with experience in the areas of corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and corporate governance. Before beginning her legal consultancy, Ms. Siwanowicz was a partner at McMillan LLP. She received her law degree from the University of Toronto and was named one of The Best Lawyers in Canada in 2017 and was named to The Legal 500 Canada in 2015. Ms. Siwanowicz currently serves on the Board of Directors of Catholic Crosscultural Services and Waverley Pharma Inc. Ms. Siwanowicz will represent the Port User Group.

Mr. McIntyre currently serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of Nemcor Incorporated and brings to the board demonstrated expertise in retail, transportation and real estate. A licensed private pilot, Mr. McIntyre holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the Schulich School of Business. Mr. McIntyre will represent the Airport User Group.
