Harbour Clean-Up Program
Keeping the harbour clean and safe is a key priority for PortsToronto.
Through the Harbour Clean-Up Program, PortsToronto removes approximately 150 million pounds (more than 68,000 tonnes) of debris, driftwood and mud/silt from the harbour each year—the equivalent weight of about 102 cars worth of material removed every day.
Harbour Hotline
As part of our commitment to keeping the harbour clean, PortsToronto also manages a 24/7 Harbour Hotline (416-462-3937) and responds immediately to reports of pollution, spills or debris in the harbour. If you notice floating debris, garbage or an oil spill, call the Harbour Hotline as quickly as possible – messages are relayed to staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
PortsToronto staff are fully trained and equipped to deal with emergency oil spill response and work in conjunction with the Harbour Master’s Office, City of Toronto, Ontario Ministry of Environment, Spills Action Centre and port users on all environmental issues.
