On-Water Education and Promoting Safe Boating in the Toronto Harbour

This summer, PortsToronto and the Toronto Police Service Marine Unit (TPS Marine Unit) are conducting on-water education and enforcement in the Toronto Harbour in order to reinforce regulations related to speed and noise limits, licensing requirements and on-board safety equipment.

⚠️ Slow down and enjoy the view
Vessels must not exceed 5 knots (10 km/hr) within 150 meters of any shoreline or breakwater from Humber Bay to the Eastern Beaches. Inside breakwalls and the Toronto Island lagoons are strict “no wake zones’, safeguarding both the environment and nearby vessels.

🔉 Keep noise to a respectful level
Vessel noise is limited to 85 decibels when measured 15 metres from source of noise. Turn your speakers toward the vessel’s interior, and keep an eye on your volume when boating near the shore.

💳 Have your permits
All powered vessels operating within PortsToronto’s jurisdiction from Humber Bay to the Eastern Beaches are required to hold a Powered Vessel Operator’s Permit from PortsToronto and a Pleasure Craft Operator Card issued by Transport Canada.

Safety First
From lifejackets to navigational tools to firefighting equipment, make sure you have all the required equipment for your vessel.
