PortsToronto Renews Commitment to Green Electricity by Renewing Agreement with Bullfrog Power for all Operations including Billy Bishop Airport

Toronto (July 25, 2018) – PortsToronto today announced that it has renewed its agreement with Bullfrog Power® Canada to power all of its operations – including Billy Bishop Airport – with green energy. The new agreement runs until July 31, 2022.
Since 2010, PortsToronto has reduced its environmental footprint by choosing 100% green energy to power all of its operations with clean, renewable electricity – the only port authority and airport in Canada to do so. Through PortsToronto’s agreement with Bullfrog Power, generators inject renewable electricity back into the grid on its behalf, matching the amount of electricity used by PortsToronto’s operations.
"PortsToronto's significant, long-standing commitment to green energy is a meaningful action that has already reduced their carbon emissions by more than 17,600 tonnes since 2010,” said Ron Seftel, CEO, Bullfrog Power. “As the only port authority and airport in Canada to be bullfrogpowered entirely by renewable electricity, PortsToronto is helping to lead the way to a future powered by clean, renewable energy."
From the opening of our Ground Run-up Enclosure (GRE) at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to reduce noise impacts, to converting our fleet to hybrid vehicles and our newest project to electrify the ferry servicing the airport, to our work to clean the harbour and build wildlife habitat on the Leslie Street Spit, PortsToronto has made great strides in its sustainability efforts and continues to build a foundation for a sustainable future. This also includes reducing our environmental footprint through expanded recycling efforts, reduction of hazardous materials and a new composting pilot project. A detailed account of all PortsToronto’s efforts for sustainable operations can be found in the annual Sustainability Report available on the company website.
“As the owners and operators of Billy Bishop Airport, the Port of Toronto and the Outer Harbour Marina, PortsToronto recognizes that a sustainability plan inclusive of environmental protection and green business operations is important to our long-term future,” said Geoffrey Wilson, Chief Executive Officer, PortsToronto. “Since 2010, we have proudly powered all of our operations with 100% renewable electricity through Bullfrog Power in an effort to reduce our impact on the environment and strive to continuously look for ways to improve and plan for the future.”
